How does this work?
It uses the circumference equation published by the US Army (2019): height plus neck and waist measurements, and hips for women.
Where do I measure?
Men: waist at the belly button. Women: waist at the narrowest point and hips at the widest point. Neck just below the voice box. Keep the tape level and snug, not tight.
How accurate is it?
It is an estimate and can differ from lab methods by several percentage points, but the same method used the same way each time is useful for tracking change.
Why track body fat, not just weight?
The scale can stall while body fat drops. Measuring every few weeks shows whether weight change is fat, muscle or water.
