How do I track calories and protein without being perfect?
A flexible approach to tracking calories and protein: start with useful estimates, keep the habit small and review trends instead of chasing perfect days.
Short answer
Choose one simple target, log the meals you can and review your weekly pattern. A useful estimate recorded consistently is usually more informative than a perfect day followed by no record at all.
Start with the highest-value entries
Log the meals that contribute most to your calories or protein first. Quick-adds and saved meals can make repeated entries less work.
Use trends instead of guilt
One meal or one day rarely explains a change by itself. Look at several days alongside weight, training and recovery before changing a plan.
Keep health boundaries clear
General tracking is not appropriate for every person or goal. A dietitian or clinician can provide individual advice when a medical condition or disordered-eating history is involved.
